Jeffrey Epstein, who died on Aug. 10, 2019, was best known as an American financer and convicted sex offender. After initially working as a teacher in the beginning of his career, he eventually switched over to the finance sector and held various positions. After developing his own firm, he created an elite social circle that included a lot of wealthy and famous people. He was later accused of persuading young women, many of them underage, to befriend him before he and some of those in his circle would allegedly sexually abuse them.
Epstein was first arrested in 2005 after an investigation was brought on by a parent complaining that he had sexually abused her 14-year-old daughter. He pleaded guilty and was convicted by a Florida state court in 2008 for persuading an underage girl for prostitution and soliciting a prostitute. He served 13 months in custody with an extensive work release.
He was arrested again on July 6, 2019 on federal charges for sex trafficking of minors in Florida and New York. He was found dead in his jail cell on Aug. 10 while he was waiting to face his fate over the criminal charges. Although his death was ruled a suicide by a medical examiner, his lawyers dispute the ruling and many critics believe his death may have been the result of a murder to get him off the hook, coining the popular internet phrase, ‘Epstein didn’t kill himself.’
In 2025, multiple outlets reported that United States Attorney General Pam Bondi announced plans to release his files, including his alleged “client list.”
