Everyone really did love Lucy and you can remember Lucille Ball’s life and legacy in photos here.
Lucille Ball, born August 6, 1911, was a true legend of Hollywood, known for her iconic role on I Love Lucy. She started as a model in the 1930s before transitioning to Broadway. She enjoyed a host of smaller parts as a contract actress for RKO Studios but her big break didn’t happen until she pivoted to television, following her marriage to Cuban bandleader Desi Arnaz. Together, the duo developed I Love Lucy, which ran for six seasons and has been in syndication for decades.
She began to flex her power behind the scenes after Lucy wrapped, becoming the first female to run a major TV studio in 1962, as she head of her Desilu Productions. After a break from the screen, she returned to roles in the mid-’80s starring in the drama Stone Pillow and other roles. Lucy passed away on April 26, 1989 at age 77.
