Donald Trump was rushed off stage after shots were fired at a rally in Pennsylvania.
Former President Donald Trump was rushed off the stage with blood visible on the side of his head and his ear after shots were fired just minutes into his rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Trump is reported to be safe.
Trump was just minutes into his speech when he reached for the side of his face as popping sounds rang out over the rally. Secret Service agents quickly surrounded him and escorted him into a vehicle, walking him off the stage with agents on all sides. Trump pumped his fist in the air as he was escorted off, and the crowd cheered as he raised his arms.
Reporters at the scene saw smoke and initially thought the sounds were fireworks before realizing it was gunfire. Screams from the audience echoed as law enforcement encircled Trump.
In a parking lot near the event site, a mother and son attending the rally told NBC News that people in the crowd were injured and carried away. Attendees remained at the scene for 10 to 15 minutes after Trump was taken away, after which they were informed it was an active crime scene and escorted out.
The threat has been “contained,” according to officials. A Secret Service spokesperson confirmed that Trump is safe and that the situation is now an active investigation.
Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, thanked law enforcement and first responders for their quick action, stating that Trump is “fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility.”
